an award-winning travel journalist and editor covering the intersection of queer and pop culture in the travel industry
Deanne Revel is determined to tell LGBTQIA+ stories so often dismissed in media as “too niche," from navigating Disney World with trans and nonbinary kids to finding queer gems and trans joy behind the “Orange Curtain.” As the former managing editor of Travel Channel’s website, she expanded the brand’s LGBTQIA+ coverage for a more intersectional and authentic audience. Deanne also produced HGTV’s first-ever same-sex wedding editorial package. As an independent journalist, she's a frequent contributor to publications such as Fodor's Travel and HGTV. Deanne's also written for Condé Nast Traveler, Inverse, Food Network, National Park Foundation, and more. Her work has been syndicated by USA Today and other national news outlets. And she's been interviewed as a travel expert for national outlets such as Bustle and podcasts such as RMWorldTravel. Deanne features gay representation and covers LGBTQIA+ points of view in much of her reporting, from gas stations that did not have to go that hard for Pride in Iceland to a playful plea to resurrect sapphic space witches in the Star Wars universe to the oldest still-operating lesbian bar in the U.S. with an infamous slushie machine.
